Since there is hardly a British fish or a riverside fly of importance, or a phase of angling that is not pourtrayed in these lyrics, the author hopes that they will prove to be welcome to that yearly increasing fraternity, his brother anglers. Criticism on such a book should possess two qualifications; first, a taste for poetry, and secondly, a practical knowledge of each branch of angling. Even those who possess the former may be over-severe on the singer if they are destitute of the latter.
